New Jersey Traffic Saturday Evening: NJ Transit Cancels Coast Line and Trenton Trains, Parkway Delays in Clifton (New Jersey Garden News)

Saturday evening was a cancellations evening on NJ Transit. On the North Jersey Coast Line, train #7265, the 5:59 p.m. departure from Penn Station New York for Long Branch, was cancelled for crew availability, with riders directed to train #7269 at 7:03 p.m.; train #7244 from Long Branch to Penn Station was also cancelled for crew availability, and train #7253 to Long Branch ran up to 30 minutes late for operational issues, which in turn left train #4753 to Bay Head up to 30 minutes late on its connection. On the Northeast Corridor, train #7855, the 3:57 p.m. from Penn Station to Trenton, was cancelled for engineer availability, with riders directed to train #7857. A Main/Bergen County Line train, #1869 from Hoboken, ran up to 20 minutes late on equipment availability after mechanical issues, NJ Transit reported.

On the roads, the 511NJ feed carried delays on the Garden State Parkway southbound from south of Exit 156 at US 46 in Clifton to south of Exit 155B in Passaic in the 5 p.m. hour, with all lanes reported in the delay notice. In Fort Lee, a crash on US 1&9 northbound south of Bergen Boulevard closed one right lane of two and the right shoulder in a 4:42 p.m. notice; no official source had confirmed any injury in the crash as of this filing, and none is reported here. Debris on the Parkway northbound north of Exit 29 at US 9 in Somers Point blocked one left lane, and I-280 westbound was delayed from the Stickel Drawbridge in Newark with all lanes open.

The transit cancellations are separate from the Portal North Bridge cutover, which continues to divert weekday Midtown Direct trains to Hoboken through November 14. Riders heading out for Halloween evening events should check NJ Transit alerts before leaving, and drivers on the Parkway and US 1&9 should expect the evening slowdowns to clear as volumes fall.
