Cliffside Park Man, 71, Charged in Bogota Rollover That Left His Passenger Seriously Injured, Prosecutor Says (New Jersey Garden News)

A 71-year-old Cliffside Park man has been charged in the Friday-night crash in Bogota that left his passenger seriously injured, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced on Monday. Yun S. Kang was arrested on charges stemming from the October 30 crash, in an investigation by the Prosecutor's Office and the Bogota Police Department.

Bogota police responded at about 8:33 p.m. on Friday, October 30, to a serious crash on Queen Anne Road near Maple Street, the release states, and found a 2018 Kia on its side with Kang and his passenger, a 70-year-old man from Fairview, trapped inside. Officers extricated both men. The passenger sustained serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital, where he remains hospitalized in stable condition; Kang was uninjured. Investigators determined that Kang, driving south on Queen Anne Road, struck a legally parked and unoccupied vehicle, causing the Kia to roll onto its side, and that he was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol at the time.

Kang was charged on Saturday, October 31, with third-degree assault by auto, as well as driving while intoxicated and related motor vehicle offenses. He was taken to the Bergen County Jail, made a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, and was released pending further court action. The Prosecutor's Office states that the charges are merely accusations, and that Kang is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
