NJDOT's Election-Week Road List: Route 18 Southbound Closes Tonight in East Brunswick, I-80 Lane Closures Start Wednesday in Mount Arlington, and Bellmawr Gets a Week of Overnight Closures

Three NJDOT releases dated today map the week's work: a full southbound closure on Route 18 tonight, long-term left-lane closures on I-80 from Wednesday, and overnight lane and ramp closures around I-76, Route 42 and I-295 through November 7.

NJDOT's Election-Week Road List: Route 18 Southbound Closes Tonight in East Brunswick, I-80 Lane Closures Start Wednesday in Mount Arlington, and Bellmawr Gets a Week of Overnight Closures (New Jersey Garden News)

The state Department of Transportation published its election-week road list on Monday, and the first item is tonight. Route 18 southbound is closed tonight between Tices Lane and Milltown Road in East Brunswick, in a release dated November 2 — drivers on the Route 18 corridor through East Brunswick should expect the southbound side shut and plan an alternate route for the night.

The second release reaches further. I-80 will take long-term left lane closures in both directions beginning Wednesday morning in Mount Arlington — 'long-term' is the department's own word, which puts the Morris County stretch of I-80 on the watch list for weeks, not nights, starting the morning after Election Day.

The third covers South Jersey: I-76 eastbound, Route 42 and I-295 face overnight lane and ramp closures through the week of November 2 to 7 in Bellmawr, the interchange complex where the three highways meet. The same day's releases also carry the department's promotion of the 2026 National Crash Responder Safety Week — a fitting note in a week when the state is asking drivers to slow down past its own nighttime work zones.
