Nine Killed in Learjet Crash in Palm Beach County: NTSB Investigators Arrive Monday, and a News Conference Is Expected Today (New Jersey Garden News)

The investigation is now the story. A Learjet 60 carrying nine people crashed at about 12:50 p.m. Sunday near Military Trail and 10th Avenue North in Palm Beach County, Florida, in an unincorporated area between Greenacres and Palm Springs, nose-diving into a residential neighborhood and erupting into a fireball. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed that all nine people aboard were killed, calling the crash a horrific tragedy. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said there were no immediate reports of anyone on the ground injured or killed.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the aircraft had departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was headed to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas. The National Transportation Safety Board has launched a go-team investigation, with investigators expected to arrive at the site Sunday and Monday, the FAA is sending a team to support it, and a news conference is expected Monday. Officials have not said what caused the jet to come down, and they have not identified the nine who died or said how many were passengers and crew.

On the ground, the crash scene is blocking the entrance to a mobile home park, and Palm Beach County Commissioner Joel Flores said about 600 people are in need of shelter because residents cannot stay there. By the records cited in the coverage read this run, the crash is the second-deadliest plane crash in the United States this year, after the June skydiving-plane crash in Butler, Missouri that killed 12, and the worst crash involving a Learjet 60. This desk reports it as major national news under the network's regional law, with no New Jersey angle claimed; what Monday's investigators find is the next file.
