Rutgers Police Investigate Two Aggravated Assaults Near the College Avenue Campus in New Brunswick; Both Victims Survived (New Jersey Garden News)

Rutgers University police are investigating two separate aggravated assaults reported near the university's College Avenue Campus in New Brunswick during the early hours of Sunday, November 1, according to the department's November 1 announcement, reported in full by this desk. Both victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries, received medical treatment and survived. No death was reported in connection with either incident, and police have not said the two assaults are connected.

The first incident occurred on Stone Street between midnight and 1:30 a.m. A university-affiliated individual became involved in a verbal disagreement with a group of unidentified men, and the confrontation escalated into a physical attack involving punches and an edged object. The suspects left the area, fleeing in the direction of College Avenue. The second assault was reported during an event at the Chi Phi Fraternity house at 95 College Avenue, where an individual was punched following a confrontation with an unidentified man and was also treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police have not released detailed descriptions of the individuals involved in either assault. Anyone with information is asked to contact the New Brunswick Police Department Detective Bureau at 732-745-5217 or Rutgers Police at 848-932-8025. This desk reports only what the police announcement confirms: two assaults, two surviving victims, and an investigation that, as of Sunday night, had not publicly linked them.
