New Jersey Early Voting Passes 950,000 Ballots Heading Into Sunday's Final Day (New Jersey Garden News)

New Jersey's early vote has passed 950,000 ballots. A total of 952,656 residents had cast ballots in advance through early in-person voting and vote-by-mail, according to the latest figures reported by the New Jersey Globe and read by this desk on Saturday. Of those ballots, 560,273 - 58.8 percent - were cast by registered Democrats, 220,467 - 23.1 percent - by registered Republicans, and 171,916 - 18.0 percent - by unaffiliated and third-party voters. Those figures describe the party registration of the voters who have turned out, not which candidates they voted for, and they do not determine the outcome of any race.

The reported breakdown also shows the in-person gap narrowing as the week went on: on the opening day of early voting, October 24, Democrats held a 32.1-percentage-point advantage in in-person turnout, and by Thursday, October 29, that daily advantage had narrowed to 16.7 points, according to the same reporting. What remains is the final weekend: early voting centers were open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and run for the last time on Sunday, November 1, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, when polls across New Jersey open at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. New Jersey voters are deciding a U.S. Senate seat and all 12 of the state's U.S. House seats, along with county and municipal offices. Anyone who has voted by mail can check a ballot's status with the state's Track My Ballot tool.
