Evening Traffic: 35-Minute Delays on the George Washington Bridge With a Crash on Its Upper Level, and a Crash Closing a Ramp From US 130 to NJ 73 in Pennsauken
The 511NJ board on Monday evening is a Hudson-crossing story first: both bridge levels are running 35 minutes westbound. Below that, a fresh ramp crash in Pennsauken and Garden State Parkway delays through Irvington and East Orange.
The evening board leads at the Hudson. The Port Authority's 511NJ entries, timestamped just after 7 p.m. Eastern, put the travel time on the George Washington Bridge at 35 minutes westbound on both levels — the upper level with four lanes open and the lower level with three lanes open. On top of the delay, a crash on the upper level westbound at Exit 1A for the Henry Hudson Parkway is blocking one right lane of two, in an entry timestamped 6:59 p.m. Eastern. Drivers heading from New Jersey toward the city and back out again should budget the half hour and then some.
The fresh incident in New Jersey itself is in Pennsauken. NJDOT's TOC South reports a crash on the US 130 southbound ramp to NJ 73, with the ramp lane closed, in an entry timestamped 6:58 p.m. Eastern. The feed reports no injuries, and none are claimed here. Further north, the Turnpike Authority reports delays on the Garden State Parkway northbound from south of Exit 143 in Irvington Township to south of Exit 147 at Clinton Avenue in East Orange.
The rest of the evening board is scheduled work, stated as the feed states it: roadwork on NJ 24 westbound between west of I-78 in Springfield Township and east of Exit 8 at Summit Avenue in Millburn Township; roadwork on US 9 northbound between Alexander Avenue in Howell Township and south of NJ 79 in Freehold Township; and roadwork on NJ 57 eastbound at Liberty Road in Greenwich Township, running from 7 p.m. Monday through 6 a.m. Tuesday. None of the roadwork entries closes a road outright — but on the night before Election Day, the bridge is the delay that matters.
