Election Eve in New Jersey: Polls Open at 6 A.M. on the Senate Seat Cory Booker Holds — and a 7th District That Could Help Decide the House
No votes have been counted and no results exist. What New Jersey voters decide Tuesday is a Senate seat rated Safe D by forecasters, 12 House seats — and one swing district the whole country is watching.

New Jersey goes to the polls Tuesday with the campaigns finished talking. Polling places open at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. on November 3, and as of Monday evening no votes have been officially counted and no results exist in any contest — the state of play is a ballot, not a scoreboard.
At the top of that ballot is the U.S. Senate seat held by Cory Booker. Booker, a Democrat, faces Republican Justin Murphy, and the average of forecasters rates the race Safe D — the least competitive rating on the board. New Jersey also elects 12 members of the U.S. House, with one of those races rated Toss-up or Lean by the same forecaster average.
That race is the 7th Congressional District, a swing seat that could help decide the balance of power in the House — the reason a New Jersey district is on the national watch lists tonight. For voters still holding mail-in ballots, the deadline is the same as the poll closing: a secure ballot drop box or the county Board of Elections office by 8 p.m. Tuesday. In-person early voting ended Sunday, November 1, so Tuesday is the day — 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., at assigned polling places.
