John Washington III Calls for an Independent Citizens' Justice Review: 'Who Do the People Turn to for Justice?'
The 2028 presidential candidate is asking what a citizen does when the officials accused of breaking the law are the same ones who decide whether a case moves — and he wants an independent pathway that does not depend on their approval.

John Washington III is calling for a national conversation about an independent citizens' justice review process, arguing that justice should not depend on the approval of the very institutions a citizen is challenging. In a statement headed "QUESTION THE SYSTEM: WHO DO THE PEOPLE TURN TO FOR JUSTICE?", he posed the problem directly: when a citizen has evidence of wrongdoing by a government official, but the district attorney refuses to pursue the case, where does that citizen turn?
"Who holds the district attorney accountable? Who investigates the investigators? And who protects the people when the system refuses to act?" he wrote. His answer is an independent pathway: the American people, he argued, should have the legal right to present credible evidence of criminal wrongdoing to an independent authority, especially when conflicts of interest may exist — an authority empowered to review complaints, investigate where warranted, and pursue appropriate legal action while protecting everyone's constitutional rights.
"Justice should never depend on someone's political connections, government position, wealth, or influence," he wrote, adding that government derives its authority from the people and that the justice system exists to serve the people, not to protect government officials from accountability. He closed with the same three lines he opened with, in his own words: question the system, demand accountability, and protect the rights of the people. John Washington III is a 2028 presidential candidate.
